These towels are from the AILE range by the Imabari based maker Johnan Orimono.
The town of Imabari in Ehime is a hub of innovation, and quality in towels. The many small and medium size businesses in the region, each plough a niche in their soft materials, and seek to engineer and create ever more satisfying towels to use.
Johnan Orimono are part of this community, and have been since their founding in 1914. Alongside classic line ups they make bathrobes, towel blankets (’towel-kets’) handkerchiefs and more.
These towels are particularly delicate, with an element of gauze in their structure, that makes them suitable for babies or sensitive skins. The surface of the material has a slight sheen, and is light and soft to the touch.
The name aile, from the French word for a wing, is taken from the light and delicate weave that Johnan Orimono have developed within this range.
These are in the small size, and are around 35cm by 35cm. They weigh 45g.
