These cylindrical stands are by Shin Kogei, a traditional maker based in Hida-Takayama, in Gifu.

Printed on to the fine locally made paper, the design depicts the famous deep-roofed thatched housing in nearby Shirakawa. This region of Japan is known for its wintry nature, and its tradition in craft.
Shin-Kogei sit at the heart of old castle town of Hida-Takayama, and were founded by a local artist. They make craft and paper items that represent their surroundings, and a particular creative tradition in this region of Japan.
