This spice or wasabi grater was imagined by product designer Mitsunobu Hagino for his FD Style range of items.
The concept is to combine design excellence with the skills in making present in the community of small firms in the Tsubame-Sanjo region of Niigata. In this case the item was made by the Sanjo based Prince company.
A grater of this type (yakumi-oroshi in Japanese) is often used for ginger, wasabi or garlic to release the flavour. This one has ease of use built into its design, and is simple to clean after use. It is made in stainless steel with a coating that prevents rust, and makes care easy.
It is 7.5cm wide, and 20.5 long. The grater area is around 9.5 cm. It weighs 97g.
