This round plate is by slipware potter Giran Sagawa.
Based in Ibaraki, and in the wider tradition of Kasama pottery in this region north of Tokyo, Sagawa has developed his own style in geometric, hand realised slipware.
After forming the basic shape for his pieces, Sagawa applies slip (a thick pottery clay) to create the design using a dripper.
This plate is a canvas for one of his feathered slip designs, which is presented on a dark blue background.
