This mug is by ceramicist Takahiro Manome, and features his trademark bird motif. Engraved into the surface of his work with a zogan technique, this bird design is something Manome happened upon, and that he frequently returns to. He imagines it as somehow, the bearer of something positive.
The mug overall is achieved in a kohiki style, with a layer of light slip over the base clay giving texture to the piece. Each mug is handmade and individually created by Manome in his studio, with slight differences between them.
