These rectangular plates are by Kasama-potter Mishio Suzuki.
Part of her ‘Birch series’ of soft organic hues, they can be used to present food, or for their ornamental value.
Mishio Suzuki was inspired initially by German and European product design.
But by travelling in Europe she came to appreciate more the pottery tradition in her own region of Kasama in Japan.
Carrying with her the diverse range of influences she acquired, Suzuki trained with the Kasama master potter Akio Nukaga, before establishing her own kiln.
Her Birch series of ceramics for the home reflects nature and the aspects that make up her pottery.
Comb ridged by hand on their upper surface, the base of the plates is finished in a russet shade.
The dimensions are 26cm by 12cm, with a height of 1.5cm.
