Karin Miyamoto’s expressive animal forms mark her out among a new generation of ceramicists in the Japanese town of Kasama.
Kasama has long been a place where a functional tradition in ceramics with its roots in the farming community, has fused with émigrés from Tokyo and elsewhere seeking to make great art.
Karin Miyamoto’s work is inspired by nature, and is sculpture. Based in a studio dedicated to the new creative front of Kasama based ceramic artists, her forms originate from an unknown location within herself.
Strong free standing stags, oxen, pigs and more populate the world that Karin Miyamoto creates.
This piece, ‘Michiru’ was exhibited in France, and Stoke-on-Trent, before becoming part of our window display at wagumi. It is now seeking a new home.
It is 22cm long, 8cm wide and 11.5cm high. It weighs 840g.
