Founded in 1892 Takazawa Rousoku (Takazawa Candle) are one of the few remaining candle makers working in the traditional Japanese style. With wicks made from rolled Japanese style paper, and natural materials used for the wax, this kind of a warousoku (Japanese candle) has an altogether difference warmth.
Takazawa are based in Nanao in the Noto region of Ishikawa, in the northern centre of Japan's largest island. The Noto peninsula was long a centre of faith, and Nanao Candles were a sub-style within warousoku that found ready use.
This box of 20, is made from rice bran in their wax, and omit their calming light for around thirty minutes each. One characteristic of warousoku is the limited wax drip when they burn, adding to their clean impression.
This set is presented in a box with an illustrated design by artist Tomo Ohta.
