This hair accessory was crafted in bamboo by Mikiko Sato at her Cotake studio.
With the lightness and strength that characterise its material, the piece can comfortably be worn for extended periods.
Sato says that the shape was partially inspired by the first peach blossoms of spring, and this is the Japanese meaning of its name.
It has a symmetrical, hand crafted beauty.
It is 5.5cm wide, 4cm high and 2cm deep. It weighs 60g.
As each piece is hand made from bamboo strips, there may be slight variations between them.
About Cotake
Cotake is the project of designer, maker and shop owner Mikiko Sato. A native of Beppu in Oita, Sato was inspired by the possibilities contained in her town’s tradition in bamboo craft. Building her own skill and original approach to the material she created a range of accessories that within their small size speak to a heritage of craft in bamboo. Of beautiful nature moulded by hand into beautiful forms. Cotake in Beppu is a space for bamboo makers, a shop containing Sato’s work, a place for workshops, and a room adjourning to her house. It takes its name from the Japanese words for child (ko) and bamboo (take), and is a personal project that Sato has nurtured.
