These towels are by Hartwell, a towel maker in Imabari, Japan. The town of Imabari in Ehime is known as centre of towel production, and for its dedication to ever softer and high quality examples of their work.
From Hartwell’s ‘Mokomoko 365’ range, these towels are engineered to become softer with use. They will be ‘mokomoko’ (soft and bouncy) for 365 days of the year. The company have microscope analysis of the individual pile threads, which confirms that they even expand with use.
Hartwell were founded in 1930, and are among the many Imabari towel companies that seek to outdo each other with innovation and improvements in making. The companies recognised as authentic Imabari based producers carry the red, blue, and white circle Imabari logo - which is known in Japan as a mark of quality.
There are hand towels, available in primary colours, and are 34cm by 35 cm when opened.
