Within Japan’s traditions of yosegi woodcraft, that in Hakone, not far from Yokohama, is the most famous. In a form a marquetry, sections of different woods are affixed together in precise and detailed geometry.

This kit allows you to try your own hand at the craft.

The design in the attached diagram is just one option, and once you have selected your chosen layout of the wood pieces, the enclosed glue can be used to fix them into place.

Once assembled, the piece can become a coaster, decoration or whatever you wish, with any protruding pieces of glue easily sandpapered away.

An original impetus to the craft, in history the coloured woods were collected in the varied ecosystem of the Hakone mountains, not far from Mount Fuji. Now with this region a national park, the pieces of different type are found instead from sustainable sources around Japan.

The kit includes 18 yosegi wood pieces, a vial of glue and sheet on which to work. There is also a pattern diagram, and English language instructions.
