Kintsugi is a Japanese technique to mend ceramics with lacquer and metal powder. 

At wagumi we sometimes host workshops, and you can find our original kintsugi kits with an array of items sourced from Japan, .

But when honing your skills in kintsugi, it can actually be handy to have some spare ceramics to work on. It is also surprisingly difficult to get a clean break, and using a tool bespoke to the task we have prepared these simple plates to practice on.

Kutani porcelain from Ishikawa in north, central Japan, the plates are beautiful in their own right*.  Here the clean break allows you to add a metallic kintsugi line across the centre.

(*Unbroken versions of these plates , and can be used as a brush palette or as tableware).

Please note that once you have applied kintsugi to the plates, it would not be wise to put them in the dishwasher or the microwave.
